Press Release

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Leon’s Gourmet Coffee and Tea recommits to Fair Trade Practices.
Boston, MA – December 7, 2014 – Leon’s Gourmet Coffee and Tea CEO Mathilda Barnes-Roberts announced today the company is more committed than ever to Fair Trade since news of the company’s failure to properly source its coffee beans was released last month.
The company is working closely with Fair Trade USA to ensure that 100% of their coffee and teas come from Fair Trade Certified farmers.
“This is something that affects all of us” stated Barnes-Roberts after a board meeting. “It is vital not just to our company’s future, but the future of our growers that we do everything we can to ensure that all of products are Fair Trade Certified.”
Leon’s Gourmet Coffee and Tea was founded by Leon Barnes in 1980 and was one of the first companies to embrace the Fair Trade Movement. When Mr. Barnes retired in 2008, his daughter Mathilda took over as CEO and stated her ongoing commitment to Fair Trade.
Fair Trade coffee imports have steadily risen, and that will only continue. Leon’s Gourmet Coffee and Tea is striving to be the largest Fair Trade importer on the East Coast.
